Responsibilities:

  • Spearheading strategic initiatives to advance WLK's mission of empowering women.
  • Leading fundraising efforts and cultivating relationships with donors and sponsors.
  • Overseeing day-to-day operations, financial management, and personnel supervision.
  • Developing and evaluating programs to meet the evolving needs of WLK's community.
  • Serving as the primary liaison between WLK and its Board of Directors, Advisory Committee, and external stakeholders.

Women Leading Kentucky (WLK) is a non-profit, non-membership organization with over 20 years of service in the Bluegrass. WLK’s focus is on providing networks, mentors, business connections, and educational opportunities for women to feel empowered and develop their leadership abilities to help elevate both their personal and professional lives. The Executive Director will lead Women Leading Kentucky’s efforts to connect, empower, and inspire women. This will include overall administration and management of the organization, including fundraising, community relations, oversight of events, facilitation of sponsorships, and building relationships with organizations who can help the WLK mission. This position is full-time and is directly accountable to the Board of Directors.

The right leader will be a creative thinker who is willing to develop innovative programs and ideas to continue pushing Women Leading Kentucky forward, with a focus on fundraising and diversifying revenue streams. Don’t worry, the support of the Board and Staff will be behind you!

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:  (Other duties may be assigned)

Management & Admin
•    Develops organizational goals, objectives, and strategies consistent with the mission and vision.
•    Administer all operational policies.
•    Manages all licenses, grants and contracts.
•    Ensures organization adheres to all applicable regulatory requirements.


Fiscal
•    Develop, administer, and monitor the annual budget.
•    Partner with accounting firm to ensure all financial record-keeping and reporting meets compliance standards.
•    Provide financial reports to the Board as requested.
•    Develops projections of needs and funding.
•    Maintains understanding of financial position. Transfers money between accounts and writes checks for all organizational A/P.  


Development
•    Develop and implement fundraising plan that utilizes multiple development strategies.
•    Review current revenue streams and continue developing additional opportunities and/or improvements.
•    Assists Board in its outreach to potential sponsors, donors and event attendees.
•    Develop and maintain relationships with community partners and donors.
•    Oversee the administration of grant applications and/or funding proposals, as/when appropriate.


Personnel
•    Undertakes and oversees all employment actions for Women Leading Kentucky staff within guidelines/policies set by the board.
•    Provide adequate supervision, coaching, development, and evaluation of staff.
•    Create a positive work environment and foster team work.
•    Establish and maintain a personnel records system.


Programs & Market
•    Plans, develops, supervises, and evaluates programs. Recommends program changes to the Board.
•    Routinely assesses, through formal and informal processes, the needs of the market for Women Leading Kentucky.
•    Works with Marketing & Outreach partner to plan advertising 
•    Develops and maintains records and reports on programs and services provided by the organization.
•    Final approval of all internal and external communications and content so that Women Leading Kentucky’s voice is consistent and reflective of the organization. 
•    Prepares press releases.


Board Relations
•    Engage the Board and utilize Board Members’ skills and expertise to provide appropriate oversight and guidance
•    Serves as liaison between the organization’s staff and its Board of Directors and Advisory Committee.
•    Assists the board chair in planning the agenda and materials for board meetings.
•    Initiate and assist in developing policy recommendations and in setting priorities.


Community Relations
•    Acts as primary liaison with various community organizations, businesses, and key stakeholders.
•    Serves as the chief spokesperson for Women Leading Kentucky and is responsible for public relations.



Requirements

THE RIGHT LEADER:
Successful Candidates will have an entrepreneurial spirit and a proven track record of success in a leadership position overseeing operations of a non-profit organization, including oversight of finances, development of funding/fundraising, and managing employees.

Requirements:
•    A minimum of three years of senior level nonprofit organization experience is preferred.
•    Successful resource development, fundraising and philanthropy experience.
•    Significant experience as a paid or volunteer leader at a not-for-profit organization.
•    A solid knowledge of accounting, budgeting, and financial management.
•    Evidence of continuing education in applicable areas.
•    Membership in related community or industry group/s.

Skills:
•    Strong organizational abilities including planning, prioritizing, delegating, program development and task facilitation.
•    Experience in thinking strategically and translating that vision for key stakeholders.
•    Demonstrated ability to tailor communication to multiple audiences using a variety of media.
•    Creative problem-solving capabilities to look past what is to see what could be.
•    Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with different types of organizational stakeholders.
