Lexington Rescue Mission is seeking qualified candidates for a one-year, full-time position as an AmeriCorps VISTA Re-Entry Volunteer Coordinator. This position is responsible for expanding and strengthening our base of volunteer mentors who ensure ex-offenders have adequate support to secure housing and, ultimately, to make a smooth transition back to the community. This position will focus on the following four objectives:

  • Develop guidelines to use in recruiting, training, and managing volunteer mentors for the Lexington Rescue Mission’s re-entry program and document them in a mentor handbook.
  • Improve the service delivery to ex-offenders at risk of homelessness by training volunteers,
with new volunteers completing a minimum of six hours of training and current volunteers completing a minimum of three hours of training annually.
  • Streamline the system to effectively manage 75 re-entry volunteers mentoring currently and formerly incarcerated men and women across Central Kentucky so that at least two-thirds of mentors remain actively engaged in serving after one year.
  • Recruit 15 volunteers to serve as mentors in our re-entry program.

This is a one-year AmeriCorps VISTA assignment through the Homeless and Housing Coalition of Kentucky (HHCK) that will start on July 22, 2019. VISTAs receive a living stipend of approximately $12,312 annually, and VISTAs receive either an education award or an end-of-service stipend after completing their year of service. Health care benefits are provided as are relocation assistance (if eligible) and child care assistance (if eligible). For more information about the AmeriCorps VISTA program, please visit
